I just finished watching Good Will Hunting, which I haven't watched in a good long while. I'd forgotten that there were so many enjoyable things in that movie. (Ben Affleck didn't make me want to vomit! Wow.)

Not enjoyable, however, is getting distracted by the internet during the end credits so that I didn't stop the movie while it was still on "Miss Misery" by Elliot Smith, and instead, let it play to the end so that I now have "Afternoon Delight" in my freaking head. Not. Cool.

Worse still, I really only know two lines of that song. GAH.

I'm memeing it up again:

1. Go to the Wikipedia home page and click Random Article (on the side menu). That is your band's name.
2. Click random article again; that is your album name.
3. Click random article 15 more times; those are the tracks on your album.

My band: Channel 65
My album: Neale Donald Walsch [I hope it's to make fun of the dude, because I am not down with G-o-d]

1. Brazos Independent School District
2. Parit Bakar
3. Rose-Croix
4. Chacoan Naked-tailed Armadillo [hell yeah! Now we're talking.]
5. Rossana Dinamarca
6. Jog (disambiguation)
7. Rho Aurigae
8. Elland Road
9. Ua-Ildak
10. Paul Kelly (footballer)
11. Tanganikallabes mortiauxi
12. John Campbell Ross
13. Chevron Renaissance
14. Sadova
15. Passo Gardena

I'm not entirely sure what type of band this would be.

I'm hoping the awesome will continue - on my lunch break I picked up the new Against Me! cd (New Wave) and Regina Spektor's Begin to Hope album. I hope they're both good. I'm just about to unwrap them and listen to them (no one is here but me so I can listen to music! Mwahaha!), but I don't know which to listen to first.

+ pirate jokes! (Thanks, [ profile] starfishchick!)
+ Especially pirate jokes about Don McKellar!
+ making plans for finishing my certificate at the end of the year and getting to take the exciting fiction course!
+ exciting fiction course means it will cost me less to finish, since it's a half credit course!
+ which means I can use the other half credit course I took to count towards my degree! It wasn't looking like I'd be able to earlier in the summer.
- being at work with nothing much to do
+ being alone at work with nothing much to do means I can do whatever I want!
+ which means I can listen to the radio!
- but not internet radio, because these computers suck and don't have soundcards/speakers.
- having issues with tuning in to the CBC
+ the first song played on commercial radio is a Violent Femmes song!
- stupid commercials
- breaking my "I haven't listened to commercial radio on purpose in over two years!" streak
+ I might possibly hear something that I've never heard before, and like it.
- I will likely hear CRAP that I do NOT like.
+ second song is from Weezer's pinkerton album!
+ memories of the dance sequence from Clerks II (which has nothing to do with Weezer. It just jumped into my head.)
- UGH! I knew it. Third song is some Creed/Nicklecrap/whatever-shitty-ass-band song.

Looks like the positives are winning out so far. I like that.

I keep smashing my toe nails on the corners of things today. You'd think that I would have worn slippers after the first time that happened, but you would be WRONG! I think I will go put those on now.

And that's about all I've got at the moment, because I completely forget what it was I might have written about.

Hee! Y'all should go here and listen to "Barney Rubble is my Double". It's pretty darn hilarious. I ♥ Warren Kinsella.
thetofupirate: (I aim to misbehave)
Dear Ambulette,

HOLY CRAP! You are the best opening band that I've seen in a long time! Wow.

Thank you,

Dear Rainer Maria,

I don't know how you do it, but you get better and better every time I see you play. I wouldn't think it was possible, since you so often blow me away, but somehow you do it. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Much love,

P.S. The blue skull t-shirt design is great! I wish I had the extra cash to actually purchase it, instead of admiring it from afar.

Dear person in front of me for RM's set,

Thank you for smelling like LUSH! It was a lovely treat to see not only an awesome band, but to smell something yummy for their whole set! Much better than that show where the dude in front of me kept farting.

Yours in LUSHiness,

Dear S & A,

Sorry you missed the show - I hope everything is (as) okay (as it can be) with Olivia...please let me know if I can do anything.

Dear former co-workers,

Sucks to be you - you should have come to the show! But at least a bunch of you are now listening to Rainer Maria, which is pretty darn awesome.

Missing your entertaining randomness,
thetofupirate: (Damn the man!)
Dear dude in front of me tonight at the concert,

PUT YOUR HANDS DOWN! There is no need to constantly have them in the air, ESPECIALLY when you're not pumping them up and down with any kind of rhythm that matches the music. SO GET YOUR DAMN HANDS OUTTA MY WAY!

Plus, there was NO NEED to hoist your shirt up over your head so that it only covered part of your back. No one needs to see that. Pasty white winter flesh is not a good look for anyone. But I am glad that you put your shirt back on properly before you bumped into me on your way out of the building.

no love,

Dear Pearl Jam,

That was pretty fun. Thanks.

Dear what- or who- ever cut my wrist,

That was not nice! But thank you for not making it hurt.

I have just hooked my second co-worker onto Rainer Maria. WOOHOO!

I cannot stop listening to their new album. Even though I have a bunch of other new albums to listen to, I keep replaying Catastrophe Keeps Us Together. It is le brilliant. You should all check Rainer Maria out, if you haven't already. Seriously.
thetofupirate: (Lenore loves kitty)
To add to the new rainer maria album, I now have:

the new gossip album
the new mates of state album
the new quasi album
and the new pretty girls make graves album!

The last is particularly exciting, as I don't think they're really supposed to start selling them until this coming Tuesday.

and what else can I tell you?

I don't know why the random capitalisation, and I'm too lazy to go back and correct it, so I am sorry.
thetofupirate: (Andrew panflute)
The new Rainer Maria album cranked up loud + mini eggs + the newest book in my YA guilty pleasure series = AWESOMENESS!

And how can one word mean another and why am I staying up alone in the dark?

I hope you all have a great weekend!

And holy crap am I excited for the r|m show next month (even if it is on a Monday night - wtf?); it's amazing how often their songs fill me up with emotions so much that I feel the need to cry, and not always because they're sad emotions.

Tonight was Anti-Flag and Bad Religion!

For a while I was unsure how I felt about Anti-Flag, because I was having troubles aligning their politics to their moving to RCA (or whatever record label they moved to), but tonight, after the first song when (Chris) #2 reamed out some asshole for grabbing a girl's breasts (and she didn't look older than 15) and then proceeded to instruct women that when they're being sexually harrassed by asshole sexists, to jam their thumbs into the asshole's eyes, I decided that I could forgive them their new record label, because damn do I ever love #2.

I also thought that if I ever did get a tattoo, it would likely be the Anti-Flag star made of broken machine guns (the one on the right here, but without the band's name).

Bad Religion were awesome. I love aging punks. There's not much more to say than that.
thetofupirate: (agnes of god)
I am having lots of fun with this. I've been playing it in the same way that I play video games (hit the buttons in random order as fast as possible) but I think I may actually start paying attention and trying to make something that could sounds like an actual song.

Sleater-Kinney were good, although Corin wasn't as screamy as I would have liked. I was pleasantly surprised when they played "Let's Call it Love", which then morphed into "Entertain". And I was surprised that they played "Sympathy"; it just doesn't seem like a song you'd want to sing to a bunch of jocky frat boys.

Pearl Jam made me remember that I liked them. They played a lot of old stuff, and a lot of my favourite songs. (Cynical!me took over for "WMA" and "Evolution": I wonder how many of the audience members actually think about the lyrics to those songs, and how many drive around in their SUVs, happily ignoring their invisible backpacks of privilege. Not that I'm perfect, by any means. I'm just Bitchy McBitcherson.)

I also came as close as I'll ever get to going to a U2 concert when Bono came on stage for "Keep on Rockin' in the Free World". Apparently they'd all been hanging out, drinking $1500 worth of vodka last night. (Cynical!me's first thought: "Way to make poverty history, Bono." My less cynical second thought: "Perhaps that's why Corin's voice wasn't as great as usual.")

It was nice to see Jeff and Jeanette again. Yay for Scott's Woodstock friend's friends!

And apparently I scare off the good celebrities, because today while Scott, Jeff and Jeanette were downtown, they walked right by Jeff Ament. My friends get the good celebrities, I get a Canadian Idol judge. I just can't win.

Ah, sleep, my dear, sweet friend.
thetofupirate: (oz)
Sadly, today's attempt at stalking Sleater-Kinney (with Scott, [ profile] trivial and shannon) did not turn up any Corin, Carrie or Janet. It did, however, turn up crazy yelling people, Zach the Canadian Idol judge and his son, and one of the crazy (now not) yelling people commenting on my Rainer Maria shirt, telling me I looked very holy, and asking if I was waiting for jesus. Odd.

I never thought I would ever write this but...

Myspace, I love you. You let me watch videos by against me! and sleater-kinney, one after the other. How sweet it is.

4 seconds was the longest wait.

Good night.

I don't know what's been up for the last while (and by while, I mean last couple of years. Or three). I used to write all sorts of crap (and sometimes even passably good stuff!) but I haven't done anything remotely like that for a long time now.

It makes me kind of sad.

I don't know how to get myself back into it. I guess I just need to suck it up, and sit here and just write something, anything, whatever comes into my head, like I used to. And not care at all that I've been at a computer at work all day, or that it's maybe not very good (that's what friends-only and private entries are for, right?), or that it's not about anything at all.

I should just make like The Tick and ride that wave, and suck that lozenge!

The cat is good! Her name is Kaylee, and she's supersweet, and she still sleeps on my pillow at night. Pictures eventually (give me a couple more weeks).

This morning when I left my apartment, I was very happy to hear my next door neighbour listening to the Joel Plaskett Emergency. It was surprising, but a nice start to the day. I'd never have guessed that she liked the JPE. I guess sometimes I don't give people enough credit (because I totally would have pegged her as listening to the same crap as the asshole who lives above me. But I'd pretty much assume that about anyone until they proved me wrong).

Sometimes I just wish I could scream and not sound like an idiot.

Name six songs that you are currently digging. It doesn't matter what genre they are from, whether they have words, or even if they're any good, but they must be songs you're really enjoying right now. Post these instructions. Then list the six artists and the songs in your LiveJournal. Last but not least, tag six other people to see what they're listening to.

Tag: Anyone who wants to be it. I like knowing what music people listen to.

I never.

Apparently I need to start writing down all my "Whoa! I never thought I'd see them play!" bands, so that I can see more of them.

Because I never thought I'd see Cyndi Lauper or the original line up of Primus play, and I've seen both of them twice now.

And I never thought I'd see Dinosaur Jr. play, and I saw them a few weeks ago.

And I didn't think I'd get to see Sleater-Kinney open for Pearl Jam, but I will be, in just over a month!

And I didn't think I'd see Jill Barber and Joel Plaskett play at the same festival as Sleater-Kinney, but I will be, in just over a month!

So now I've really got to think about who I never thought I'd see play, and maybe it'll happen.
thetofupirate: (empire - lipgloss_black8)
YAY! It's about freaking time they passed it.

We totally should have done this to the boardroom at work when they were redecorating. How freaking awesome.

Camcam and I spent the evening watching movies with women who take revenge on stupid men. Quite enjoyable. But I totally forget what I was supposed to post...Oh yes! We totally smooshed boobs. We are crazy.

If I were in a band, I'd totally want to be in an obscure one.
