Oh, media

Man, today has been a good day, media-wise.

The current issue of Bust is really excellent. Rosario Dawson seems like an awesome woman, and the article on women who are joining convents was really interesting. An article with Bjork. News from a Broad still being really snarky and fun, even with a new author. And lots of neat book and music reviews. I usually enjoy reading this magazine, but I've really enjoyed this issue.

And then finding out that Buffy Season 8 spoiler )

And finding out that Joss Whedon is planning season 9 of Buffy, and a shorter comic series to explain what happened after Angel ended (because that was one crazy series finale).

And then finding out that Kevin Smith is writing the first episode of the Heroes: Origins series! (And finding out that it will be a short 6-episode series of possible new characters for the show, and that the audience gets to vote on which character they want in the show.)

I think there was something else I squealed in delight about, but I can't remember what it is now. But all in all, a good (for me) media-news day.

And I still have two more magazines to read! Let's hope the awesome continues.

Woohoo!

I just won a book!

I like books.

I start this Friday! Eee!

And, bonus: it's not actually in Mississauga! The company's warehouse is there, and it's the only Canadian address on their website, but the actual offices are in Toronto, on the subway line. Hooray! SO MUCH EASIER to get to. (It's actually an office building I've been to several times, without ever knowing there was a publishing house there. Now that I think about it, it's the building where I decided I wanted to get into publishing/copyediting! I hope that's an awesomely prophetic sign.)

I guess I'll be leaving my Thursday night class about 10 minutes early so that I can catch an earlier bus home, so that I'm not getting to bed at 1am and then getting up at 5:30am. That would actually kill me, I think. My other option is possibly asking the lovely [livejournal.com profile] vitaminbootay if I could crash on his couch on Thursday nights. We will see; hopefully my instructor won't care that I leave slightly early.

I applied for a couple of publishing internships a few weeks ago. I heard from one, and had an interview, but then didn't hear back from them again (and neither did my classmate, who was being interviewed right before me). But I hadn't heard anything at all from the second place I applied to. But today, in my email, is a reply stating that they would like me to be their editorial intern! Craziness. It's one day a week, which is perfect, because I have one weekday free! Hopefully Fridays will work for them, but if not, it shouldn't be hard to rearrange my work schedule. Oh, exciting. I should email them and find out all the details. They're in Mississauga, which is a bit of a pain in the butt to get to, but it should be possible. Woo!

jobs...

I can't remember if I mentioned that I did get an email from my editing/researching job, and I'm going in for training on Tuesday. Phew! No more worrying that I didn't really get hired! ;)

And this morning I also got a phone call for a second interview at the place I interviewed at last Wednesday! YAY! I am very excited about that - I think I would really like that job. And my "Holy SHIT! I have to write a press release? OH NO! How do I do that? THINK! Picture one of Trish's press releases, QUICK!" must have been okay. I'd told Trish that story, so I emailed her right after I got the phone call. I'll do some research tonight on other communications things, just so I'm not out of it again tomorrow. Be prepared, me!

And now I'm off to former employer to return the passcards that I forgot to bring on Friday. And to exchange the dictionary they got me (although I'll be doing that elsewhere, not a former employer) - they gave me The Oxford Dictionary of English, instead of the Canadian one. How much cooler is the Canadian one? It's got the finger tabs at the start of each letter section, and the plain old English one doesn't! Plus, it's $5 cheaper. Go Canada!

Yes, I'm a nerd. They got me a dictionary as a going away present (as well as a messenger bag, coin purse, and a finger piano from Mali. The bag and coin purse were not from Mali); I think it confused some people. My immediate coworkers did a think where they took each letter of my name and had a bunch of other words starting with that letter to describe me, so I joked that if my name had an "n" in it, they'd have had to use the word "nerd".

Got some big news at Easter dinner with my family.

Since last weekend was my mom's birthday, but she was in Kentucky with my great aunt (she was driving her back to Hamilton from Florida), we did belated birthday presents before Easter dinner. And the card from my brother and sister-in-law to my mother said something like "Grandma, blah blah blah, Happy Birthday!" with Grandma circled to make it really stand out.

I'm gonna be an aunt! And the due date is 2 days after my birthday!

Which means that my parents will stop asking me (their unmarried child) about having kids! YAY! Plus, playing with a little baby is always fun.

Almost one month after getting hired for the job, I finally started it! Yay!

Today was my first day. It was a bit overwhelming, since I really have no idea what has been going on in the department, and they're just starting a giant $25 million dollar, three-year fundraising campaign. Hopefully I'll get into the swing of things soon.

But I'm so excited to finally be there! Yay!

And I'm tired, and should really call Scott now. Good night.
